There are a couple of markets in Hua Hin, with the Hua Hin Night Market at the western end of Dechanuchit Road being the main one. As well as all the shopping of handicrafts and knickknacks and the eating, there is also some nightlife along this drag. Hua Hin Night Market is also known as the Chat Chai night market.
Hua Hin Night Market is more for enjoying the feel of a traditional street market than for its shopping prowess as there is much better shopping to be had elsewhere. The sheer amount of foods and eateries here make it somewhat special though, along with the chance to sit and have a beer and enjoy the girlie bars in neighbouring sois.
The market sits between the main highway into Hua Hin, Petchkasem Road, and Prapokklao Road to the west and goes from 18:30 until late. Many of the restaurants behind the stalls that line Dechanuchit also double as bars and are fun to sit in for people-watching. The better restaurants are at the top end of the market, near Prapokklao.
This end of the market also has the best option for the serious bars for those into a bit of fun. They go along Prapokklao Road and down the soi immediately north of Dechanuchit Road (Soi 70) where the market is at. The bars on Prapokklao Road usually get going later on, around 22:00, while those back in the heart of the resort at Soi Bintabaht become lively much earlier.
Some of the bars on Prapokklao Road, as well as those on Soi 70, have bar girls and you can go short-time at one or two of these. However, the quality of girls is not as good as those back towards the Hilton, which is really saying something so do not expect too much.
In addition, they are mainly frequented by Thai males, although this brings the rate down somewhat. Short-time here can be had for 500-1,000 baht onsite, and even less by day when business is slow.
Hua Hin Night Market sex bars also stay open quite late—typically 02:00—which is a good option for those who are staying near this area of town. In any case, Prapokklao Road is only a 10 or 15-minute walk from the beach and Soi Bintabaht.
There are also regular bars on the roads and sois leading to Prapokklao Road and the Night Market when coming from the south along Sa Song Road. Keep heading north along Sa Song, through the Hua Hin Night Market, and onto Soi 70 and there are further options still for girlie bars.
All of these bars are cheaper than those in the touristy parts of Hua Hin. Along Soi Bintabaht and Selakam Road, for example, you’re looking at paying perhaps 1,000 baht for short-time plus the 300 baht bar fine fee.
You can perhaps get the fee down a bit if you’re good looking, but all bets are off in high season.
