Pattaya has a huge number of go go bars and girls and is the number one reason why this place is so busy. Since girls started flocking to Pattaya to meet with American GIs on R&R during the 1960s, the sex industry here has gone from strength to strength. Most Pattaya go go bars and girls can be found along Walking Street, Soi 6, and a few other select areas.
Pattaya go go bars feature girls in various degrees of undress dancing on stage – or simply shuffling around – under the watchful eye of drunken punters. They usually have a good atmosphere with loud music and are markedly more expensive than the regular beer bars both for drinks and when it comes to buying the girls. These places are pretty relaxed and have little of the sleaze that you’d see in red light districts of Western countries.
The main difference between the go go bars and the beer bars is that the girls at the latter are almost fully dressed and they don’t dance onstage. They will go home with you just the same and it will usually be cheaper. Beer bars are also visible from the street and tend to be more relaxed; i.e., there’s less urgency for you to continually buy beers for yourself and the ladies.
Pattaya go go bars and girls are usually fun and friendly and will go to your hotel with you for a fee, regardless of your looks. Note. If you’re not the most handsome specimen and are on the large side, it’ll simply cost you more money. The best Pattaya go go bars will have dozens of available girls in there, while standard places tend to have around a dozen. An area of Walking Street even has Eastern European girls working the trade, while some go go bars now have topless girls (sometimes even bottomless!).
How it works
Just waltz into a go go bar through the curtain, sit down and order a beer. Go go bars are easy to spot as they’re not open to the street and will have several girls sat outside trying to get you in. You can watch the girls or sports on TV and just kickback and wait for them to come over to you, which they will. If you fancy the look of one, beckon her over or smile. You don’t have to buy them drinks (they will continually ask), but if you don’t, they won’t sit with you for long and it’ll be tougher to negotiate her fee. Drinks for girls are around 150 baht (she makes a commission).
To get the girl out of the bar, you need to pay a ‘bar fine’; which goes to the bar for the loss of her services. This is usually around 500 baht in Pattaya go go bars, but can rise to as much as 1,000 baht during busy holidays, such as Christmas. Once you’ve paid that, you can take her home and have sex, but be sure to ask the price before paying the bar fine. Prices start around 2,000 baht for one or two hours (known as ‘short-time’) and 3,000 baht and up for all night. Girls from the beer bars are about half this.
Where to find go go bars
Walking Street is your best bet. It is the main street at the end of Beach Road in South Pattaya that is pedestrianised every evening. There are also many sois going off Walking Street with many more bars – Soi Diamond is one of them and has well over a dozen go go bars.
They include Shark Agogo, the Windmill Club, Super Girl and Naughty Girls. Up on Second Road is Hottie’s Coyote Club, which is pretty good with dozens of girls and live music.
Soi 6 (between Beach Road and Second Road in Central Pattaya) is another pumping area with loads of Pattaya go go bars and girls. There are also all-male, ladyboy places here and some good pubs. Soi Buakhao and Soi LK Metro are not far from here and include the likes of Club Blu Coyote Bar, while other options include Soi Post Office and Soi Yamato.
Farther south is the long-running Classroom in Pattayaland Soi 2, and North Pattaya, Ziggies Bar on Simon Drinking Street.
There are various sexually-transmitted diseases in Pattaya and HIV is still a genuine threat. Although safe sex is practiced by most girls, some do not so always carry, and use, condoms. There are many smaller complaints too, like herpes, which can be uncomfortable and may end up spoiling your time here. Always use precautions and be vigilant when going down. Pattaya has English-speaking doctors, such as Dr Belen (off Second Road) near soi 6, while the pharmacists are very useful (they’ve seen it all before). More on Health in Pattaya.
